Miami Symphony Orchestra launches Reach for the Stars: music as a gateway to opportunity
Miami, August 2026. The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) announced in August 2026 the launch of Reach for the Stars, a bold new initiative that takes its commitment to Miami’s youth to another level. The program will initially target underprivileged children and young people in Miami and the state of Florida, offering them greater opportunities in life through the transformative power of music.
The initiative was developed in collaboration with Adesh Sewraz, a Mauritian entrepreneur newly appointed as MISO Ambassador and member of its Global Advisory Council, who will represent the orchestra across Africa and Asia — expanding the project’s reach on a truly global scale.
Maestro Eduardo Marturet, MISO’s Music Director and CEO, was clear about what this launch means: «We already have a youth program in operation, but this new initiative takes our commitment to the youth of Miami to a completely new level.»
.The voices behind Reach for the Stars carry real weight. Designer Carolina Herrera, member of MISO’s Global Advisory Council, called it «a fantastic opportunity for MISO to grow its boundaries and receive global recognition.» Actor, director and composer Andy García, one of MISO’s long-standing ambassadors, put it simply and powerfully: «The future is in the hands of our children and I can’t think of more important work than to educate and inspire them through music. Music is the most sublime companion of the soul»
Ambassador Adesh Sewraz added: «I am aware of the wonderful work MISO and Maestro Marturet undertake on behalf of the underprivileged children of Miami. This new and vibrant initiative will enhance development and create even more opportunities for the young people of Miami and beyond. I am indeed honored and privileged to be involved».
Reach for the Stars arrives in the middle of a landmark season for MISO — one that also saw Maestro Marturet make a triumphant guest conducting debut with the New York Philharmonic at David Geffen Hall, and that includes an ambitious 2026/2027 calendar spanning the Adrienne Arsht Center, Peacock Park in Coconut Grove, Doral Park, and the Miami Design District. An orchestra expanding in every direction, reaffirming with this new program what has always been its most essential mission: making sure music reaches those who need it most.
